With spring comes a feast of flowers in the wild – sunlight awakens a sea of blooms, fluttering in the mellow caress of the wind and permeating the air with their blissful fragrances. Rose, magnolia, narcissus and lily of the valley, all vying with each other in beauty and glamour. Spring flowers are a fountain of inspiration for perfumers, seducing them into capturing the flowers’ delicate aromas in order to provoke deeply buried olfactory memories. This spring, JOYCE Beauty has selected an edition of spring perfumes that flaunts the abundance of spring flowers, offering fragrance lovers only the most captivating floral scents.
Much like an editor works with authors, Frédéric Malle has been working with the greatest perfumers in the world to explore the endless possibilities of fragrance. The Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle restore the former glory of perfume and are considered works of art in their own right. All the perfumes are made with true craftmanship from exceptional raw materials, creating olfactory art that knows no compromise. The brand is also the first to put the names of the perfumers on the bottle, giving these creative geniuses their rightful due.
Editions De Parfums Frédéric Malle – Portrait of a Lady
A masterpiece created by Dominique Ropion in collaboration with Frédéric Malle, Portrait of a Lady has received numerous awards over the years, it is a classic yet atypical rose perfume that revolutionises the idea of roses. The genie behind this captivating perfume is Dominque Ropion, one of the most world-renowned perfumers of our time, he was recognised by the IFF as “Master Perfumer” and has been a dear friend and collaborator with Frédéric Malle for over 25 years. Portrait of a Lady is one of perfumes that came to fruition from this friendship: at the fore is an exuberant dose of Turkish rose – 400 flowers per 100ml bottle, no less. Beneath lies a heart of patchouli imbued with sandalwood and frankincense. An accord of clove, blackcurrant and raspberry binds the perfume together with a final, distinctive brushstroke. A perfume of precision and perfection, it is a tribute to femininity in its innumerable shapes and sizes, and to the unique charm of being a woman.
Editions De Parfums Frédéric Malle – Eau de Magnolia
Created by Carlo Benaïm – the first Master perfumer recognised by IFF in 2013 – Eau de Magnolia is refreshing citrusy wonder. Breathe in the magnolia of early spring with an enchanting touch of citrus. Unlike other white flower perfumes that exude opulence, Carlos Benaïm’s Eau de Magnolia balances the bloom’s richness with a citrusy freshness. Carried by a woody undercurrent, at the perfume’s heart is a magnified citric balance of bergamot, lemon and grapefruit that tunnels into focus towards darker notes of oak moss and patchouli. An olfactory representation of sunshine and its shadow.
MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN
Francis Kurkdjian, one of the most celebrated perfumers in France, reinterprets exceptional raw materials in his own unique language and thereby creates olfactory pieces of art that tell stories and embody artistic conceptions such as freedom, purity, delicacy, elegance, eternity, inspiration and classicism. Francis Kurkdjian’s creations are widely recognised and constantly rewarded. He himself was named a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture in 2009 to recognise his contributions. All his creations illustrate a sensational beauty and irresistible charm, not to mention Kurkdjian’s originality and pursuit of perfection.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian – À La Rose
Indulge your senses with a feast of springtime roses. Two varieties of rose bequeath this eau de parfum with the radiance and richness of their petals: Centifolia roses from Grasse and Damascena roses from Bulgaria. The fragrance’s top notes reveal 150 Damascena roses from Bulgaria in the form of an essential oil that radiates a sense of liveliness, melded with a playful blend of pear and lychee, followed by 250 Centifolia Roses from Grasse (May Rose) in the form of an absolute that produces a very floral base note with honeyed, carnal accents. À la Rose has the crisp tenderness of rose petals, a whimsical free-spirited style and an elegance that radiates femininity.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian – Baccarat Rouge 540
An encounter between two symbols of excellence, Maison Baccarat and Maison Francis Kurkdjian. The combined magic of Nature and Man, transforming raw materials into a single, sensory element. Baccarat Rouge 540 is expressive like a flame, filling the room with its unmistakably mineral notes, which are followed by amber and woody floral tones. Breezy jasmine facets and radiant saffron boost the ambergris mineral notes and the woody tones of freshly cut cedar.

NONFICTION – For Rest
A hot spring in the woods – sparkling with yuzu and a touch of nutmeg and black pepper, spiced up with a breeze of frankincense, this is a modern woody perfume. Fragrant steam rises from a forest-enveloped hot spring surrounded by moist rocks latticed with moss. A cooling breeze strokes the hair and, as breathing deepens, fragments of memory continually float up and sink away. For Rest captures a silent respite in the middle of the woods, with a refreshing, mystic air. It is a sip of crisp yuzu tea that slides into a well-blended woody accord with mineral, hinoki and incense, completing its modern mood with slightly spicy touch of nutmeg and black pepper.
NONFICTION – Gaiac Flower
A smoky variation of intense oriental flower – a wildflower blooming in a cloud of fragrant woodsmoke. This fragrance exudes sheer femininity in rendering an evolution from purity to sensuality, where the voluptuousness of amber and musk starts to gently soak into the clarity of fresh-blooming flower, superimposed on and embracing the air with the oriental note of guaiac wood. Sensual, yet remaining innocent and untainted, a soothing paradox comes into existence.
